Can't Hold Us Down is the fourth single from Christina Aguilera's second studio album, Stripped . The song was released in 2003. Can't Hold Us Down is a duet with the rapper Lil 'Kim . The song reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 , making the song Aguilera's tenth Top 20 hit in the United States. The single peaked at number 2 in New Zealand , number 6 in the UK and number 5 in Australia . The song was nominated in 2004 for a Grammy Award in the category Best Pop Duet with Vocal .

Can't Hold Us Down was written and produced by Aguilera, Matt Morris and Scott Storch . It's a duet with the rapper Lil 'Kim, who worked with Aguilera on Lady Marmalade on the cover of the Moulin Rouge! Soundtrack from 2001. Both are friends since the recording of Lady Marmalade , Christina and Kim together formed a "Girl Power" team. The song is a sample from P.Diddy's hit Can't Nobody Hold Me Down .

As with the previous singles, Can't Hold Us Down was inspired by hip-hop through Lil 'Kim .

The song is not featured on Aguilera's Greatest Hits album Keeps Gettin 'Better: A Decade of Hits .

Music video

The music video was directed by David LaChapelle , the music video was filmed in Los Angeles , behind a backdrop that depicts Manhattan in the 80s. In the music video, Aguilera is dancing with a man on the street . Then dancers join in and Aguilera starts singing. Then Lil 'Kim starts rapping. The music video premiered on August 23, 2003 on BETs 106 & Park .
