action

Ali Rose is a small town waitress with a great singing talent. To escape her lack of prospects, she quits her job and goes to Los Angeles . When she happened upon the Burlesque Lounge, a majestic but ailing theater, she first found a job as a waitress thanks to the bartender Jack. Her wish to be on stage is initially rejected by the owner Tess. Little by little, however, she succeeds in convincing Tess of her dancing qualities. Thanks to her spectacular voice, which only becomes noticeable when a fellow dancer is sabotaged (previously all dancers only “sang” playback), she finally becomes the central star of the ensemble. She and Jack initially have a brief affair until it turns out that he has not broken up with his girlfriend. Ali learns that the club is on the verge of bankruptcy and tries every possible means to prevent Tess from selling the club, which she succeeds. In the end, Jack and Ali speak up and become a couple again. The film ends with a song that Jack wrote for Ali.

Reviews

  • Laura Finzi wrote on CountryMusicNews.de: “ A lot of dancing, a lot of singing, a lot of (half) bare skin - little story. A film for fans of Christina Aguilera and Cher, with dancers disguised as nurses and policewomen, "Burlesque" has nothing in common with classic burlesque. "
  • Robert Zimmermann wrote on Critic.de: “In the end, the brazen cinematic narrative outweighs the numerous furious musical interludes, and you leave the cinema with the wish that somebody might bring out the show numbers on DVD without the storyline. "
