Julianne Alexandra Hough (born July 20, 1988 in Salt Lake City , Utah ) is an American actress , singer and dance athlete .

Life

Julianne Hough was born to her parents' youngest child in Salt Lake City, Utah. She has four older siblings and was raised in a Mormon family . Her parents divorced when Hough was around 10 years old. At that time she was trained in dance, singing and acting together with her brother Derek in London . She has nine more step-siblings from the subsequent marriages of her parents. Her cousin is the singer, actor and dancer Ross Lynch .

After completing her training in England, she moved to live with her mother in Las Vegas , where she attended the Las Vegas Academy. After a year, however, she went back to her father in Utah and attended Alta High School. After graduating from high school, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her career. One of her best friends is Nina Dobrev , known from the fantasy series Vampire Diaries . Hough has been married to the Canadian ice hockey player Brooks Laich since July 2017 .

Career

In 2001, she was given a small role in the Harry Potter film adaptation of The Philosopher's Stone as a Hogwarts school girl, but the role was not featured in the credits. After returning to the United States, she won the ABC dance show Dancing with the Stars in 2008 , where she appeared with her brother Derek. In the same year she was also active as a star of the country scene. Her debut album reached number 1 on the country charts in 2008. In 2009 she won the Academy of Country Awards for “Best New Singer” and “Best New Artist” . She then supported Brad Paisley and partnered with George Strait .

In 2010 she starred as Georgia in the musical film Burlesque by Steve Antin, alongside Cher and Christina Aguilera . In the music comedy Footloose she was seen as Ariel alongside Dennis Quaid and Andie MacDowell . In Rock of Ages of Adam Shankman she plays the singer Sherrie Christian . Tom Cruise , Alec Baldwin and Catherine Zeta-Jones are her celebrity colleagues in this rock musical film adaptation.
