Adam Michael Shankman (* 27. November 1964 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American dancer , choreographer and also a film director and film producer , who especially with the genre of the entertainment film works.

Youth and education

Adam Shankman was born in 1964 to a higher middle class family. In an interview in July 2007 he reported that he had not danced before he was 18 years old and that his decision and training therefore started very late for someone who wants to become a professional dancer. He was educated according to Jewish traditions in Brentwood and spent two years at the Juilliard School in New York after graduating from high school . He then worked as a freelance actor and dancer.

Career

Five years after his training, he appeared in music videos by Paula Abdul and Janet Jackson and made an appearance at the 1989 Academy Awards . At the age of 24, Shankman directed and choreographed various music videos with Julian Temple , including a. Whitney Houstons I'm Your Baby Tonight . He had other collaborations with the B-52’s , Barry White , Aaron Neville , Chic and Stevie Wonder .

In 1998 he made Cosmo's Tale , a short film that was shown at the 1997 Sundance Film Festival . His first major feature film was the romantic comedy Wedding Planner - In love, engaged, planned (2001) with Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey . From May to August 2007, Shankman was a member of the jury for the third season of the TV show So You Think You Can Dance , based on the American model for You Can Dance . In autumn 2007 the musical Hairspray ran successfully in international cinemas. With grossing US $ 119 million and a budget of around US $ 75 million, this film is the fourth highest-grossing musical adaptation in the past 35 years. Shankman's new comedy for Walt Disney Pictures , Bedtime Stories , recently hit stores after its theatrical run.

20th Century Fox also plans to produce a television series under the name Cadillac Ranch that illuminates the life of a successful small-town politician. As the New York Post reports, the design of the main character shows clear similarities to the Republican Sarah Palin . Shankman has been announced as the director of the project.

Private life

Shankman is open about his homosexuality . In 2002 he married Freddie Prinze junior and Sarah Michelle Gellar in Jalisco , Mexico .
