At the beginning of the film, seven-year-old Mary Fiore is shown playing wedding with the Barbie dolls. Many years later, she worked as a grown woman in San Francisco for a wedding organization. She manages crisis situations like the disappearance of the bride's father shortly before the wedding.

Mary's father worries that she will never get married. He wants to introduce her to the Italian Massimo, whom Mary got to know as a child and did not like.

One day the heel of her shoe is stuck in a hole in a manhole cover as she crosses a street. A large dumpster rolls down the street straight toward Mary. At the last moment she is saved by a strange man. Mary passes out and wakes up in the children's ward of a hospital. Your savior, Steve Edison, is the chief physician there. Later, Mary and Steve spend a romantic evening in a park.

Mary gets a new assignment from the parents of the bride Francine Donolly, who attended one of the previous weddings. It turns out that Steve is supposed to be the groom. Mary feels betrayed, she angrily reminds him of the romantic moments in the park.

Francine, Steve and Mary tour a vineyard where the wedding is to take place. There Massimo appears, who claims to be engaged to Mary. Since Mary is mad at Steve, she does not correct this at first. The bride's parents later decide to move the wedding to a park.

Francine is away on business for a week, with Steve and Mary doing the rest of the preparations. In doing so, they come closer. Mary and Steve happen to meet a former friend of Mary who is accompanied by his pregnant wife. Mary tells Steve that years ago she caught her boyfriend having sex with the woman. She is dejected afterwards, Steve comforts her. Before he leaves, he asks her if she still remembers the evening in the park. She replies with a sigh that she only ever attracts men who are taken. She says that Francine loves him and that that is all she needs to know.

Mary is promoted in her company, the Italian mediated by her father makes a marriage proposal, which she accepts. Steve is now in love with Mary and after he and Francine have decided to cancel the wedding, he rushes to Mary's wedding to prevent it. The question arises as to the possible reasons that speak against the marriage; Mary's father says she should marry for love.

At the end, Mary and Steve dance and kiss together in a park.
