action
The pregnant Connie Doyle is literally thrown onto the street by her boyfriend, a rowdy petty criminal. Penniless and undecided what to do with her life, she gets on the next best train, where Hugh Winterbourne prevents her exposure as a fare dodger at the last moment. He takes Connie into his compartment and introduces her to his wife Patricia, who is also heavily pregnant. Hugh goes to get his wife a drink, and the two women start an animated conversation. Connie admires Patricia's wedding ring and is allowed to try it on. At this moment the train crashed. Patricia and Hugh die, Connie is taken to the hospital and mistaken for Patricia because of the ring on her finger, she was also delivered during her one-week coma.
After Connie has recovered, the wealthy Winterbourne family takes her into their posh home, believing that Connie is Hugh's widow. Fascinated by the unexpected luxury, but also by the security that comes from Grace Winterbourne, the caring and proud supposed grandmother of the baby, Connie repeatedly postpones the confession of her true identity. Eventually she falls in love with Bill Winterbourne, Hugh's twin brother, and he also falls in love with Connie.
When Connie's engagement to Bill is announced in the newspaper, Connie's ex-boyfriend Steve recognizes her and tries to blackmail her. However, Connie's money is too little for him and he demands that Connie show up with the child on their wedding day to kidnap them and extort a ransom. Connie appears the next day with a gun in hand. However, Steve is already dead. At that moment, Bill walks in, who had learned of Steve's whereabouts from the family butler. The two flee and Connie confesses everything to Bill. Then it turns out that Bill already knows about them, they talk.
At the wedding, the couple learns that Grace is about to confess to the murder. The whole Winterbourne family tried to outdo each other with confessions, including the butler. In fact, the police have already arrested the real culprit, it was Steve's last girlfriend because he, like Connie, had put her on the street pregnant.
Connie reports everything to Grace and then Connie marries Bill with her real name.
