Patrick (Pat) Doyle (born April 6, 1953 in Uddingston , Scotland ) is a Scottish actor and composer of film music .

Life

After studying piano and singing at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, of which he has been an honorary member since 2004, Doyle wrote music for small radio and television productions and played a. a. in the Oscar- winning film The Hour of the Winner (original title: Chariots of Fire) with. From 1989 he concentrated on writing film music. Patrick Doyle achieved his breakthrough with his music for the film Henry V. This film is also the beginning of a long-term collaboration and friendship between Doyle and the director and actor Kenneth Branagh .

In 1997 Patrick Doyle was diagnosed with leukemia . However, he resumed his work just a year later and has since composed music for over ten films, including the score for the fourth part of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire . He replaced the well-known film music composer John Williams , who wrote the music for the first three parts. Doyle interpreted the famous Hedwig's theme by Williams in 3/4 time differently to 6/8 time, played exclusively with strings.

Among other things, Doyle was nominated for two Oscars and two Golden Globes . He was also nominated for two Césars and a British Academy Film Award , but each time came away empty-handed. But Doyle was able to assert himself as the winner at many different other prizes.

Patrick Doyle is married and has four children with his wife Lesley.
