action

Little Kayley grows up well protected on her parents' farm. Her father is Sir Lionel, a knight of King Arthur 's Round Table . Lord Ruber, also a member of the Round Table, is greedy and power-hungry and tries a coup against the king in order to become king himself. Sir Lionel dies while fighting Ruber. Ruber escapes.

Kayley grows up and dreams of becoming a knight like her father instead of just looking after the animals on the farm. Suddenly the Excalibur sword is stolen and the news spreads across the country. Lord Ruber returns with a lot of dark magic and wants to use Excalibur to seize power. He also passes by Kayley and her mother's court. Kayley learns of the sinister Ruber's plans and the hiding place of the sword and flees from Ruber's murderous assistants in the enchanted forest in which the sword was hidden. There she meets the blind hermit Garrett. Reluctantly, he is ready to help Kayley find the sword. On their way they meet the quarrelsome Siamese twin dragons and a small flame of love arises between the two, which they do not admit at first.

Together they manage to steal Excalibur from the hands of a stone giant, now the sword only has to be brought to Camelot. However, Garrett doesn't want to go to Camelot because he thinks he's inadequate. Lord Ruber then gets hold of Kayley and the sword. Fire and flame tell Garrett of the kidnapping of Kayley and Garrett rushes to help. Ruber can use a ruse to get into the castle tower in which Arthur is staying. Kayley and Garrett sneak through the castle to assist Arthur, and Kayley eventually manages to defeat the Dark Lord. Magic is in the air, Garrett and Kayley are made Knights of the Round Table, they kiss and ride off together.

Reviews

"Even if The Magic Sword cannot keep up with the more elaborately produced competitor projects in terms of quality, the appealing implementation of the well-known Disney formula for success for family-friendly entertainment at least promises decent sales worldwide."

"Just something for the little ones: the Arthurian legend in the pseudo-Disney look."

- Helmut Fiebig : cinema.de

"An atmospheric and exciting cartoon and fantasy film aside from superficial anachronisms, which entertains charmingly and is capable of captivating children and young adults alike."
