Ivan Simon Cary Elwes (born October 26, 1962 in London ) is a British actor , film producer and screenwriter .

Cary Elwes is the third son of interior designer Tessa Kennedy, who is of Anglo-Irish and Serbo-Croatian descent, and portrait artist Dominic Elwes. His brother Cassian Elwes is a film producer , his second brother Damian Elwes is an artist. His mother married Elliott Kastner after the death of her first husband . After school, Cary Elwes moved to the United States , where he studied acting and art at Sarah Lawrence College in Yonkers near New York .

After college, Cary Elwes had his first role in 1984 in Another Country by Marek Kanievska . He then received the offer in Lady Jane - Queen for Nine Days , a historical epic, to play the role of Guildford Dudley alongside Helena Bonham Carter . 1987 followed an appearance as farm boy Westley in The Bride of the Prince . This was followed by roles alongside Matthew Broderick in Glory and as a competitor to Tom Cruise in Days of Thunder . In hot shots! - The mother of all films , a parody of Top Gun - you fear neither death nor the devil , he embodies the antagonist of Charlie Sheen alias Topper Harley. In Bram Stoker's Dracula , he was Lucy's fiancé, played by Sadie Frost .

In Mel Brooks ' parody Robin Hood - Heroes in Tights , Elwes took on the title role of Robin Hood . Other roles followed, including in Twister and alongside Jim Carrey in The Dummies . In 1999 Elwes played the role of John Houseman in The Staggering Ship, directed by Tim Robbins . The following year he appeared in Shadow of the Vampire in the role of Fritz Arno Wagner . In Uprising - The Uprising over the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, Elwes took on the role of Fritz Hippler .

In the ninth season of the mystery series X-Files - The Scary Cases of the FBI , Elwes took on the role of Brad Follmer , a skeptical FBI agent, in six episodes from 2001 . In 2004 he starred in the horror film Saw Dr. Lawrence Gordon who falls into the hands of a mad serial killer . Six years later he played again Dr. Lawrence Gordon in Saw 3D Completion . In the film Pope John Paul II , Elwes was seen as a young Karol Wojtyła . Elwes made his debut as a screenwriter with the film Elvis & Nixon in 2016.

In 1997 Elwes got engaged to the photographer Lisa Marie Kurbikoff in Paris . The wedding took place in 2000. They have a daughter together (born April 24, 2007).
