The beast (original title: The Crush ) is an American psychological thriller by Alan Shapiro from 1993. The main roles are played by Cary Elwes and Alicia Silverstone . Due to a lawsuit, the name of the main character had to be changed from Darian to Adrian , which is why this name is used here in the article.

The young journalist Nick Eliot lives in Cliff and Liv Forrester's guest house. Her fourteen-year-old daughter Adrian piques his interest when Nick discovers her talent for writing. Adrian rewrites one of his reports and thus ensures that Nick receives praise from his boss. After a party at the Forresters', Adrian and Nick kiss and she falls in love with him.

From now on, Adrian is “obsessed” with Nick and fights for his attention. She poses freely in front of his window, secretly observes him and tries to scare off Nick's colleague Amy. After she catches Nick and Amy in bed, she locks Amy in her darkroom while she develops photos and lays a wasp's nest in front of the ventilation shaft. Amy barely survives the attack.

After Adrian's friend Cheyenne tries to warn Nick, she manipulates the saddle of her horse so that Cheyenne has a serious riding accident in which she almost dies. Now Nick realizes the seriousness of the situation. Meanwhile, Adrian claims to have been raped by Nick . Nick is released and has to move out of the Forresters' house.

When Cheyenne is released from the hospital, she tells Nick about a diary that Adrian kept. Nick hopes this diary is evidence of his innocence. He goes back to the Forresters, where he is attacked by Adrian. Nick successfully defends himself, and when Adrian's father joins him, he learns the truth about his daughter.

Adrian is admitted to a psychiatric clinic . Your attending doctor is proud that she has fought her sick love. Little does he know that Adrian is now after him.
