Little Princess ( Original title: A Little Princess; cross- reference: Die Traumprinzessin ) is an American fantasy drama directed by Alfonso Cuarón from 1995. The fictional film is based on the novel Sara, the little princess (Original title: A Little Princess ) by Frances Hodgson Burnett .

action

When her father fought alongside the British Army against the Germans during World War I , Sara Crewe was sent from India to a boarding school in New York . Her late mother was already there. The girl quickly becomes known and liked by others because she tells them imaginative stories. Sara begins to argue with the strict headmistress, who claims that her stories are bad for the other children. But then Sara receives the news that her father died in the war. Now she becomes the housemaid of the inhuman headmistress, who also confiscates a medallion that Sara's father had given her. The other girls want to help her steal the locket back and offer themselves as helpers. They are accepted and Sara tells them stories again. Once it is a scary story and the girls start screaming. Miss Minchin, the manager, hears them and punishes them by depriving them of food. When the headmistress calls the police unjustifiably, Sara looks for shelter in the house next door with a neighbor who is caring for a soldier with amnesia caused by a gas attack . Sara recognizes her father, who regains his memory just in time before the police can take Sara away.
