Richard LaGravenese (born October 30, 1959 in Brooklyn , New York City ) is an American screenwriter and film director .

Life

LaGravenese's breakthrough as a screenwriter came with his work on Fisherman's King (1991) by Terry Gilliam , which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. This was followed by other scripts for successful films mostly on romantic themes such as The Bridges on the River , Love Has Two Faces and The Horse Whisperer . For the Allmovie Guide he is the "author of poignant, funny and humanistic scripts that touch the emotions of the viewer, but do not manipulate them."

The love comedy kissed awake with Holly Hunter and Danny DeVito made his debut as a director in 1998. He was both screenwriter and director on other projects such as Freedom Writers (2007) and PS Ich liebe Dich (2007). In 2006 he directed the episode "Pigalle" for the episode film Paris, je t'aime . In 2013, the literary film adaptation of Beautiful Creatures - An Immortal Love followed . LaGravenese received the 2007 Humanitas Prize for his screenplay for Freedom Writers .

Richard LaGravenese is a member of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) . He currently lives in Manhattan with his wife and daughter .
