Clarksburg AVA (recognized since January 23, 1984) is a wine-growing region in the US state of California . The area extends within the Sacramento Valley over the three administrative areas of Sacramento County , Solano County and Yolo County . The area is near the town of Clarksburg . The floors are heavy. They consist of dense limestone and clay soils and thus have a cooling effect. Fog and sea breezes from San Francisco Bay make for a relatively cool climate compared to Sacramento . 90% of the grape harvest is not processed on site, but distributed to large wineries in the surrounding area, as there are hardly any wineries in the Clarksburg AVA despite the size of the vineyards (at least slightly more than the German wine-growing region Rheingau ) .
