'Gouveio' is an autochthonous white wine variety from Portugal , which is identical to the variety 'Verdelho Branco' represented in Madeira and the Italian 'Verdello' .
distribution
The cultivation of the Gouveio vine is recommended in the areas of Trás-os-Montes , Beira Interior Sul and Beira Interior Norte , in the area of Douro and Madeira it is permitted. It is cultivated in the Portuguese wine zones of Chaves, Dão, Douro, Encostas da Nave, Planalto Mirandes, Valpacos and Varosa. The forested area in Portugal is around 2,414 hectares . The variety is found on the Crimean peninsula in the Ukraine for the production of fortified wines. Smaller stocks (approx. 200 hectares) are also known in Australia .
properties
The early maturing variety is susceptible to frost and is susceptible to powdery mildew and raw rot .
Wine
It brings alcohol-rich wines with a medium acidity . Among other things, it is used for the white port wine and the Verdelho variant of Madeira wine .
