Mark Johnson (born December 27, 1945 in Washington, DC ) is an American film producer .

Life

Mark Johnson, his brother David, and his sister grew up with their mother in Maryland after their parents' divorce, Emory Johnson and Dorothy King, in the early 1950s and lived in Spain from 1953 . As a child, Johnson was mostly an extra in supporting roles in American and British films shot in Spain. After completing compulsory schooling in Spain, Johnson moved back to the United States in 1964 and began studying film at the University of Virginia .

In 1974, Johnson settled in New York City , where he began his career as a production assistant on individual commercials. Three years later, in 1977, he was called to Hollywood , where, as an assistant director, he was responsible for the 1979 production of Escape from Alcatraz . After he had met director Barry Levinson in 1977 , he signed him in 1982 and hired him as executive producer for his film American Diner . Johnson was in the 1980s as a regular producer of Barry Levinson, who produced Rain Man in 1988 , and was awarded the Oscar in the category of best film in 1989. In 1992 Johnson was nominated again for an Academy Award for Bugsy , again for a Barry Levinson film.

Johnson produced for different studios. Baltimore Pictures signed him from 1991 to 1996 . He then moved to DreamWorks , where he produced until 1998. Today Johnson is a producer at Walden Media and is responsible, among other things, for the production of the Chronicles of Narnia .

Mark Johnson is married and has two children with his wife Leslie.

He has been a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences since 2006 .
