Halt and Catch Fire is an American drama series by cable broadcaster AMC that aired from 2014 to 2017. In Germany, the series has been available on Amazon's streaming service Prime Video since 2015 . The series takes place in the 1980s and early 1990s and is about the computer boom caused by the advent of the personal computer and the Internet. The story is told through the eyes of three companions: the visionary Joe MacMillan, the engineer Gordon Clark and the programmer Cameron Howe.

action

Former IBM employee Joe MacMillan tries to beat IBM at Cardiff Electric and become the pioneer in personal computers. Joe's boss, John Bosworth, an old school businessman, has been trying to get Cardiff Electric into the local market for the past 22 years. Bosworth is the company's senior VP of finance and represents founder Nathan Cardiff on almost all matters. He and Joe have very different ideas about the future of Cardiff Electric.

Joe wants to build a personal computer at Cardiff Electric that is better than IBM's. For this he needs the help of Gordon Clark, who does not give up his big dream of one day bringing a revolutionary product onto the market.

Therefore, there are always tensions in Gordon's marriage to his wife Donna, who thinks that his work is more important to him than his family. Joe also turns to young high-flyer Cameron Howe, who is risking her entire future, to join Joe's company as a programmer. Greed and pride threaten private and professional relationships as the three of them work together to realize their dream of their own PC and to cope with life in the Texas Silicon Prairie.
