Bo Welch

Robert W. "Bo" Welch III (born November 30, 1951 in Yardley , Pennsylvania ) is an American production designer , art director and director .

Life

Bo Welch began his film career in 1979 in the film crew of the comedy Head Over Head with John Heard in the lead role. Two years later he worked as a set designer for Michael Crichton's No Mord Off the Rack . In the 1980s he worked as art director on several films, including Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple , for which he received his first Oscar nomination . In 1988 he first worked on Beetlejuice with Tim Burton . For the second collaboration, Edward Scissorhands , Welch was again nominated for an Oscar and received the BAFTA Award . Between 1987 and 2002 he worked on fifteen films with production designer Cheryl Carasik . Welch was nominated four times for an Oscar.

In 2003 he made his debut as a film director; based on the stories of Dr. Seuss- based children's film Ein Kater macht Theater earned him a nomination for the Golden Raspberry as worst director. The film was also nominated for the worst film, leading actor Mike Myers , the supporting actors Alec Baldwin and Kelly Preston and the screenwriters received corresponding nominations.

Welch has been married to Canadian actress and screenwriter Catherine O'Hara since 1992, and the couple have two children.
