action
After their parents are killed in a mysterious fire, the siblings Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire are brought into the care of a certain Count Olaf. However, he turns out to be mean and insidious and does everything in his power to usurp the great fortune that the Baudelaire parents have left behind.
The orphans manage to get a more sympathetic guardian, but there, too, a disguised Count Olaf turns up. He clears the new guardian out of the way through a fictitious accident so that they are passed on to the next of kin. So the Baudelaires are passed from guardian to guardian and always have Count Olaf on their heels, who tries to acquire his great fortune with new costumes and tricks.

production
The series is an adaptation of the thirteen-part book series A Series of Unfortunate Events by Daniel Handler (published under his pseudonym Lemony Snicket ), which was published between 1999 and 2006. In 2004, the first film adaptation of the book series was dared with the film Lemony Snicket - Puzzling Events . At that time Handler had written a script for the film himself, but was replaced at short notice by screenwriter Robert Gordon after the originally advised Barry Sonnenfeld (who now directs) had left the director's chair to Brad Silberling .
In November 2014, Netflix finally announced that it would work with Paramount Television to adapt the books into a television series with a total of 26 episodes. Two episodes should be dedicated to each book in the series. Handler is closely involved in the production of the series and acts as a screenwriter and executive producer .
In the first season, the first four volumes of the book series were filmed in two episodes each. A second season, in which volumes five to nine of the book series were filmed in ten episodes, was ordered in January 2017 and published on March 30, 2018. The remaining four volumes were eventually filmed in a third season and released on January 1, 2019, with filming being completed as soon as possible to prevent the child actors from getting too old.
