Malina Weissman (born March 12, 2003 in New York City , New York ) is an American child actress and model .

Career

Weissman began her career as a model at the age of eight. She has worked for renowned designers and brands such as Calvin Klein , Ralph Lauren , Donna Karan , Levi's , Benetton and H&M , among others . For the first time as an actress she appeared in commercials for the brand Mein Kleines Pony and the cosmetics manufacturer Maybelline .

In 2014, she was in the science fiction - action film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles her film debut. She portrayed the young April O'Neil, who was portrayed in an older version of Megan Fox . From 2015 to 2016 Weissman took over the Warner Bros. -Superhero series Supergirl the role of the young Kara Zor-El , the protagonist of the series, which is played in an older version by Melissa Benoist . In 2016 she made an appearance in the film Thirsty . That same year she starred in a leading role alongside Kevin Spacey and Jennifer Garner in the Barry Sonnenfeld- directed comedy film Hungover .

On January 2, 2016, it was announced that Weissman would play Violet Baudelaire in A Series of Unfortunate Events - an adaptation of the novel series of the same name . She was considered for the cast by Barry Sonnenfeld, who developed the series with his production company, Sonnenfeld Productions , and who previously worked with Weissman in his film Fully Hungover . The series finally premiered worldwide on Netflix on January 13, 2017 .
