Rhys Montague Darby (born March 21, 1974 in Auckland , New Zealand ) is a New Zealand actor and comedian .

Life

Darby is a former soldier in the New Zealand Army , which he left in 1994. From 2007 to 2009 he played the band manager Murray Hewitt in the HBO series Flight of the Conchords . He made his feature film debut in 2008 with Jim Carrey in The Yes Sager . Several guest roles in television series followed, including How I Met Your Mother and Modern Family . In 2014 he created the comedy series Short Poppies for Netflix . He plays one of the roles in the series himself and wrote the script for all episodes. Since 2016, Darby has also increasingly lent his voice to computer animation films and series.

In addition to his acting profession, Darby also does stand-up comedy . He had three major shows called Imagine That! (2008), It's Rhys Darby Night! (2011) and This Way to Spaceship (2012). The latter is based on his book of the same name, which he published in 2012.
