The Guard Lion : (AKA The Lion Guard is a) American animated series of Ford Riley from the year 2015, based on the movie The Lion King in 1994. The series is designed to appeal especially preschoolers and is therefore simple. The first airing of the pilot took place in the United States on November 22, 2015 on Disney Channel . The series started regularly on January 15, 2016.
In Germany, the series premiered on March 25, 2016 on the pay-TV channel Disney Junior with the pilot film Die Garde der Löwen - Das Gebrüll is back . Series production started on April 13, 2016 on the same transmitter. The series has also been broadcast on the free-to-air Disney Channel since September 23, 2016 .
On October 27, 2016, the film for the series "The Lion Guard: The Roar is Back" was officially released on DVD in Germany.

The series is about Simba's second child, his son Kion. He was commissioned by Simba to found the Lion Guard, whose job it is to protect the sacred land and the cycle of life from threats. Kion is unsure whether he is ready to lead the guard. This story, too, is about growing up and finding one's place in the world.

- Kion is the son of Simba and Nala and younger brother of Kiara. He is supposed to lead the "Guard of Lions". Kion is the most powerful of the Lion Guard. He has "the roar", a powerful lion call with which he can even trigger earthquakes. His exclamation is "Hevi kabisa!" ( Absolutely! ), In addition, he mostly agrees with the motto or guard "Until the end of the consecrated land", to which the others answer "the guard is steadfast" (English "Till the Pride Lands end, Lion Guard defend!")
- Banga (originally Bunga ) is a honey badger . He is a friend of Kion and the bravest member of the Lion Guard. He is also the foster son of Timon and Pumbaa. He often describes things as "bangatastic (" Un-Bunga-livable! "). His battle cry is" Zuka Zama! "( Get up and try! )
- Fuli is a female cheetah . She is friends with Kion and the fastest in the Lion Guard. Your battle cry is "Huwezi!" ( You can! )

- Anga is a martial eagle . She is a serious bird and often gives the impression of being cold and unfriendly, even though she is actually friendly. From season three, she becomes a member of the Lion Guard. After Ono is injured, she takes over the post of "sharp-eyed". She often calls out "Anga lenga!" ( Look at the sky! ).

- Mufasa is the father of Simba, who was killed by Scar. He appears as a ghost in heaven and gives Kion advice.
- Zazu is a hornbill and the caretaker and steward of the King of the Consecrated Land.
- Timon (a meerkat ) and Pumbaa (a warthog ) are close friends of Simba. They raised Banga.
- Zira is a lioness who was banished from the Consecrated Land by Simba because she did not recognize him as the rightful king. Since then she has been leading the "outsiders", a pride of lions, in the Shadowland.
- Kovu is the son of Zira. Kovu and Kiara are friends.
- Nuka is the son of Scar. After his death he lives with Zira.
- Vitani is the daughter of Scar. After his death she also lives with Zira.
- Scar is the brother of Mufasa and the uncle of Simba. He appears as a ghost in the volcano and forges plans for revenge on Simba with the hyenas and the snake Ushari.
- Rafiki is a mandrill and the keeper of memories and traditions in the sacred land. He paints all the important events and advises the guard and the king.

- Zuri ( good ) is a young lioness. She is a friend of Kiara.
- Tiifu ( obedient ) is a young lioness. She is also a friend of Kiara.
- Makuu ( large ) is a crocodile and the new leader of the crocodiles.
- Jasiri ( brave ) is a friendly hyena from the Shadowlands and friends with Kion.
- Makini ( careful ) is a young mandrill who is being trained by Rafiki to be his successor.

The TV series was produced in 2014 and 2015 by the Walt Disney Company on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of The Lion King .
In order to make the new series as authentic as possible, many Swahili names and words were added again. So each character in the lion guard got his own, matching phrase in Swahili.
