Maia Mitchell (born August 18, 1993 in Lismore , New South Wales ) is an Australian actress and former child actress . She was best known for her role as Brittany Flune in the television series My Embarrassing Parents . She also starred in the TV series Trapped in 2008 and in 2011 in the sequel Castaway as Natasha Hamilton . From 2013 to 2018 she was part of the cast of the series The Fosters and has played a leading role in the follow-up series Good Trouble since 2019 .

Life & Career

Maia Mitchell was born in Lismore , New South Wales . Her father, Alex Mitchell, is a taxi driver, while her mother, Jill, works in the education system. She has a younger brother. In 2011 she graduated from Trinity Catholic College in Lismore.

Mitchell's career in her native Australia began with school performances and local plays. At the age of 12 she was discovered for the teenage series My Embarrassing Parents . She then appeared in the series Trapped and Castaway . Her first role in an American production was a guest appearance on the series Jessie in 2013 . She then got the female lead in the Disney Channel Original Movie Teen Beach Movie and the sequel Teen Beach 2 .

From 2013 to 2018 she played the part of Callie Jacobs , later Callie Adams Foster , in the series The Fosters produced by Jennifer Lopez . After it ended, Mitchell immediately took on a leading role in the Good Trouble offshoot , where she also acts as a producer. In May 2019, the film The Last Summer starts on Netflix , in which she plays one of the leading roles alongside Halston Sage , KJ Apa and Tyler Posey .
