Liesel Matthews (* 14. March 1984 in Chicago , Illinois , United States as Liesel Pritzker Anne ) is a former American child actress .

Life

Liesel Matthews was born into the wealthy Pritzker family. She is one of twelve surviving grandchildren of Patriarch Abram Nicholas Pritzker, a financier and industrialist who died in 1986. Her uncle Jay Pritzker is the founder of the Hyatt hotel chain , and the family runs the TransUnion and the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line . The Pritzker family is almost at the top of Forbes Magazine's list of America's Richest Families , which has been running since 1982.

She chose the stage name Matthews after her brother Matthew. The reason for this was a dispute between her parents as to whether she should be registered as Liesel Pritzker-Bagley - Bagley is her stepfather's name - or just as Liesel Pritzker. After that, the brother's first name - with an appended "s" - became her last name.

Liesel Matthews attended New Trier High School in Winnetka and studied at Columbia University in New York . During her freshman year at college, she filed a lawsuit against her father and the Pritzker family in which she accused her father of embezzling funds that she and her brother believed were due to her.

At the beginning of 2005 there was a settlement between the litigants. The details of the scheme have not been published. But it is claimed that Liesel and Matthew Pritzker each nearly 500 million US dollars were awarded. That would make the two of the richest young adults in the United States. Liesel Matthews is currently attending the French Cultural Institute in New York and had a stage appearance in Vincent in Brixton . She won the Theater World Award for her performance .
