Jay Pritzker

Jay A. Pritzker (born August 26, 1922 in Chicago ; † January 23, 1999 there ) was an American entrepreneur, art collector and patron.

Life

Abram's son Nicholas Pritzker was trained as a lawyer, but soon joined the family business Marmon Group , which he thoroughly restructured, and worked in a wide variety of industries together with his brothers Robert and Donald Pritzker . In 1957 he founded the Hyatt hotel chain and from 1983 to 1988 he was the owner of Braniff Airlines .

The Jay Pritzker Pavilion

In 1979, together with his wife Cindy, he launched the Pritzker Architecture Prize for architects, which is endowed with $ 100,000 .

Frank Gehry , who was also one of the prizewinners, created the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park in Chicago in 2004 , where open-air concerts are performed.

Pritzker was married and had five children:
