The only peppermint museum in Germany is located in the municipality of Eichenau near Munich in the east of the Fürstenfeldbruck district in the rooms of the former municipal library. The museum provides information about the cultivation, harvest and drying of peppermint as well as its healing power and the history of mint using texts, photos and historical equipment.

history

Entrance to the museum

After the First World War and into the 1950s, Eichenau developed into the most important peppermint growing area in Germany, with the English Mitcham mint in particular being cultivated and harvested. Today, peppermint is only grown there on a small area for demonstration purposes especially for the museum.

The Peppermint Museum was founded in 1986 by the Independent Eichenau voter group . The only museum of this kind in Germany has been run by the Förderverein Pfefferminzmuseum Eichenau e. V. worn. Original Eichenau peppermint tea can be tasted and purchased in the museum. As it is run on a voluntary basis, it is relatively small and open with free admission on Sundays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
