Premonition (Original Title: Premonition ) is an American mystery - thriller from director Yapo from the year of 2007.

action

Linda Hanson lives with her husband Jim and two daughters. One day she learned from a police officer that her husband had died in a car accident. Her mother Joanne comes to support her.

When Linda wakes up the next morning, she realizes that what had happened was apparently just a nightmare: the calendar shows the day before the accident. From now on, every time she wakes up in the morning, Linda experiences alternately a day in her life before Jim's death and a day after Jim's death: It is as if she were living in two different realities, which only she is aware of, not people around them. Linda experiences a whole week in this alternation between Jim-is-dead and Jim-alive versions, and during the course of that week Linda sees how much she and Jim are apart. In the Jim is dead version, she learns that an affair between Jim and his work colleague Claire had begun. Linda tries to strengthen her relationship with Jim during the week and to restore the lost harmony in the family, because she still sees hope. This is also conveyed to her by a clergyman, in whose church she seeks advice.

Towards the end, Linda finally wakes up on Wednesday morning, exactly on the day of the accident. When she searches the house for her children and her husband, she finds a note in which Jim explains that he took the children to school. She sets out to catch up with him at school, but misses him. Finally she makes her way to the place on the highway that was given to her as the scene of the accident by the police officer who brought her the news of Jim's death: mile 220. Jim is also still on this street with his car at the time well ahead of Linda. He phoned Claire and tells her he loves his family too much, as he the planned tryst could pull at the hotel with Claire.

After this conversation, Linda reaches her husband on the phone in the car, who at her request stops on the hard shoulder shortly after the sign for mile 220. Linda realizes that at this point on the road that very day, after her premonition, Jim will die in a collision with a truck. She asks him to trust her and turn the car around. Jim turns around, barely misses a car in the oncoming lane and stops across the street. His cell phone falls and as he bends down to get it, a tanker truck appears on the street behind him , skidding while trying to avoid Jim's car. Jim's car won't start, and Linda watches helplessly as the truck's semi-trailer crushes the top of Jim's car and eventually explodes.

In the final scene, Linda wakes up in the more advanced reality in which Jim passed away. You can see that she is pregnant with a third child.

Reviews

James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that the film was "plagued by inconsistencies". Another weakness of the film is the "passivity" of the character of Linda Hanson. Its end is "inefficient" and raises more questions than it answers.

Dennis Harvey wrote in Variety magazine on March 11, 2007 that the film “smelled” strongly of films like The Sixth Sense and Memento . Sandra Bullock is only able to portray the basic characteristics of Linda Hanson.
