Simeon De Witt
Simeon De Witt (* 1756 in Wawarsing , Ulster County , Province of New York , † 1834 in Ithaca , New York ) was Geographer and Surveyor-General of the Continental Army during the American Revolution . De Witt, one of the three commissioners of New York at the time, commissioned geodesist John Randel jr. with work on the Commissioners' Plan of 1811 . The three-person "commission" also included Governor Morris and lawyer John Rutherfurd .
