Andie MacDowell (* 21 April 1958 in Gaffney , South Carolina as Rosalie Anderson MacDowell ) is an American actress and model .

Life

Andie MacDowell was born in Gaffney, one of four daughters. When she was six years old, her parents divorced. Her mother subsequently suffered from depression and alcoholism.

In 1986 Andie MacDowell married Paul Qualley, from whom she divorced in 1999. From this marriage came a son and two daughters. Her two daughters Rainey and Sarah Margaret also work as actresses. From 2001 to 2004 MacDowell was married to businessman Rhett DeCamp Hartzog. She has been dating North Carolina businessman Kevin Geagan since 2006 .

Career

MacDowell first attended college before moving to New York in 1978 . There she started working as a model for an agency. She became known for her work for the cosmetics and hair care company L'Oréal , with which she is still associated. TV commercials for Calvin Klein garnered her attention, leading to her 1984 film debut in Greystoke - The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes . The producers chose to have MacDowell's lyrics dubbed by Glenn Close because her southern accent did not match the British aristocrat she embodied. In 1985 she had a small role in St. Elmo's Fire and her film career seemed to be coming to an end. Four years later, however, Steven Soderbergh made his first movie with her, Sex, Lies and Video .

Her greatest success so far was the comedy And Daily Greetings by Harold Ramis , filmed in 1993 , in which she played the lead role alongside Bill Murray . She is also best known for her roles in Green Card (1990), Short Cuts (1993) and Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994).

Andie MacDowell was nominated three times for the Golden Globe . In Germany she is dubbed by Evelyn Maron and Ulrike Möckel .

In addition to acting, she works as a model and actor for the cosmetics group L'Oréal . She promotes care products for more mature consumers.

Trivia

In 2004 MacDowell was guest of honor of the Austrian contractor Richard Lugner at the annual Vienna Opera Ball .
