Nina Dobrev
Nina Dobrev ( Bulgarian Николина Добрева or Нина Добрев ; born January 9, 1989 in Sofia , Bulgaria , as Nikolina Kamenowa Dobrewa ) is a Bulgarian - Canadian actress . She is best known for her role as Elena Gilbert in the television series Vampire Diaries (2009-2017).
Life
Dobrev's mother is an artist, her father a computer specialist; she has an older brother. In 1991, the family moved into the Canadian Toronto .
Dobrev attended JB Tyrrell Sr. Public School and the Wexford Collegiate Institute in Scarborough, Toronto . From a young age she was enthusiastic about various artistic fields. In addition to dance, gymnastics, theater, music and visual arts, this also included acting. In the following time Dobrev took lessons at the Dean Armstrong Drama School , where she was discovered by some agencies. After working as a model and appearing in commercials, she finally came to the medium of film. After appearances in various productions such as Chloe or Never Cry Werewolf , she got the lead role in the mystery series Vampire Diaries in 2009 . There she embodies the characters Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce (also known as Katerina Petrova ) in a double role .
In 2011 she made a brief appearance as Maria in The Roommate , starring Leighton Meester and Minka Kelly .
In the summer of the same year she shot the film Maybe Better Tomorrow , alongside Emma Watson and Logan Lerman , where she played one of the supporting roles. The film was released in theaters on November 1, 2012.
In April 2015, she announced her exit from Vampire Diaries after the end of the sixth season.
In September 2013 Nina Dobrev graced the cover of a major US lifestyle magazine, Cosmopolitan, for the first time .
Nina Dobrev was in a relationship with her co-actor from the Vampire Diaries , Ian Somerhalder , from 2010 to 2013 , and with American actor Austin Stowell from October 2015 to early 2016 .
Dobrev is fluent in English, Bulgarian and French. She lived in Atlanta while filming the Vampire Diaries . She has lived in Los Angeles since 2015 .
In 2017 she embodied Becky in the film xXx: The Return of Xander Cage and got the lead role in Flatliners that same year .
