action

At the beginning, Max Cartwright waits in the car for her mother Amanda, an actress. This had her biggest role so far in her youth as Nancy in the iconic slasher film Camp Bloodbath (German: Camp Bloodbath ). On the way home, the car is involved in an accident and Amanda dies.

Three years later, on the anniversary of her mother's death, Max and her best friend Gertie and her crush Chris, at the urging of Gertie's brother Duncan, attend a memorial performance in the bloodbath series. Her former best friend Vicki is also in the cinema. During the film screening, the cinema room catches fire due to the inattention of other visitors. The only way out of the inferno is the emergency exit behind the screen, so that Max cuts up the screen and walks through the screen with her friends. Shortly afterwards Max, Chris, Gertie, Duncan, and Vicki find themselves in a forest. There they encounter the VW bus from the bloodbath camp film and the actors ask them for directions. At first completely perplexed, Duncan closes when the bus returns after 92 minutes and the same scene plays out again, indicating that the group must have gotten into the film. They let Kurt take them to camp on the bus. There they find their thesis confirmed when they observe the murder of Mimi and the Wanderer. Since they are not part of the plot, they initially consider themselves inviolable. This view is soon refuted, however, when Duncan is attacked by Billy with a machete and apparently killed.

The group flees and realizes that Billy strikes whenever one of the actors engages in sexual acts. Therefore Max's group tries to prevent the residents of the camp from any kind of sexual intercourse. It is particularly important to Max to save her "mother" Nancy, who in the original film dies after having sex with Kurt. However, it will soon be necessary to educate residents about Billy. After this is done through a flashback , the residents flee in a panic from the killer nearby. Paula and Kurt race off in their car, but run over the injured Duncan and hit a totem pole. Kurt is thrown out of the car and dies; Paula dies in the subsequent car explosion. The problem arises that Paula, the actual final girl in the original film, can no longer kill Billy as intended. The group therefore sets up a trap to bring Billy down and get his machete. Max would be the only virgin to take on the role of enforcer by brutally killing Billy with his own machete, as in the movie.

The plan is put into practice and Billy is attracted by a striptease from Tina. In doing so, Tina stumbles into the trap herself and is killed by a bear trap. However, the group manages to impale Billy on deer antlers. However, Billy is not dead and stabs Blake to death. Vicki and Gertie are killed by Billy when a bookshelf falls on them; Max, Nancy and Chris initially manage to escape. Another flashback, the three get to Billy's machete, but Chris is badly wounded and Nancy is kidnapped by Billy. After Max succeeded in freeing Nancy again, Nancy sacrifices himself, as this is the only way for Max as the final girl to have the chance to kill Billy and thus end the film. Nancy strips and is stabbed by Billy. Max then takes on the fight and beheads Billy. While the credits are playing, Chris and Max kiss. She wakes up in a hospital bed next to Chris. Next door are Duncan, Gertie and Vicki, who are not dead, but who have left their wounds from the fight. The group thinks they are safe at home, but soon realize that they are in the even bloodier sequel Camp Bloodbath 2: Cruel Summer . The film ends with a masked machete wielding murderer jumping through a glass door and running towards the group.
