Joshua John Miller (born December 26, 1974 in Los Angeles ) is an American actor , writer and screenwriter .

Life

Miller is a son of actors Sue Bernard and Jason Anthony Miller , Jason Patric is his half-brother. He graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1992 , then studied at Antioch College and Yale University .

As an actor, Miller made his debut in an episode of the television series The Greatest American Hero from 1982. In the horror film Halloween III (1982) he was seen in a small supporting role at the side of Tom Atkins . For his appearance in two episodes of the television series Highway to Heaven from 1985, he received the Young Artist Award in 1986 . In the film drama Das Messer am Ufer (1986) he appeared in a larger role alongside Crispin Glover , Keanu Reeves , Ione Skye and Dennis Hopper , for which he was nominated for the Young Artist Award in 1988. The role alongside Lance Henriksen and Bill Paxton in the horror film Near Dark (1987) earned him the first nomination for the Saturn Award in 1988 .

In the fantasy comedy Teen Witch (1989) Miller starred on the side of Robyn Lively ; for this role he was nominated for the Young Artist Award in 1990 as well as for his guest appearance in an episode of the television series Wonderful Years from 1990. He received another nomination for the same award a year later for the role in the SF horror film The Class of 1999 (1990), in which he starred alongside Malcolm McDowell and Pam Grier . For the lead role in the SF comedy Robodad (1991) he was nominated for the Saturn Award in 1992 and for the Young Artist Award in 1993.

Miller wrote articles for Harper's Bazaar and Playboy magazines . He wrote the script for the film drama The Mao Game (1999) based on his own novel , which he also directed and in which he played one of the roles alongside Kirstie Alley and Piper Laurie . As a screenwriter he was involved in The Final Girls (2015). Most recently, he developed the TV series Queen of the South, which has been broadcast since 2016 .
