Jason Anthony Miller
Jason Anthony Miller (born April 22, 1939 in Long Island , New York , † May 13, 2001 in Scranton , Pennsylvania ) was an American actor and playwright .
Life
He became famous as an actor for his role as the priest Damien Karras in The Exorcist (1973), which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. The film was also his acting debut. In 1990 he played the role in The Exorcist III one more time. His acting career spans more than two dozen productions.
But Miller was also a successful writer of dramas. His piece That Championship Season was awarded the prestigious Pulitzer Prize in 1973 . He filmed the play in 1982 (German title Champions ), but was only moderately successful, as was another film version from 1999 (director: Paul Sorvino ). Only Bruce Dern was able to win a Silver Bear at the 1983 Berlinale as one of the main actors in the 1982 version .
