Halloween III (alternative title: Halloween - The Night of Decision , Halloween 3 ) is a horror film by Tommy Lee Wallace from 1982. After the sequel to the first Halloween film was not the expected success, it was decided to move away from the old Halloween -Solve a story and tell a new one, especially since Michael Myers died in the last part. However, the film flopped in the cinema and only has the name in common with the later Halloween series . However, in the 30 years since then, the film has gained a larger following and is now viewed as a stand-alone cult film .

action

The film tells of a doctor who uncovered a conspiracy: the toy manufacturer of the company "Silver Shamrock" tries to kill thousands of children using remote-controlled and prepared Halloween masks. This is to be triggered by means of a commercial on Halloween night. The doctor succeeds in eliminating the toy manufacturer and his henchmen. However, he does not manage to prevent the broadcasting of the commercials.

background

  • Michael Myers appears only briefly in a television clip from Halloween - The Night of Horror .
  • Carpenter and Hill wanted to go back to the roots of the first Halloween film and produce a completely bloodless and suspense film - but it was decided during the shooting to add scenes of violence and blood in order not to risk the film's failure.
  • John Carpenter's idea was to bring a new Halloween film to theaters every year, each with a new story. After this flop, they went back to the original story.
  • The film grossed 14.4 million US dollars one.
  • In Germany the film did not come into the cinemas and was marketed on VHS from November 1986 .
  • In January 2012 the film was removed from the index. A re-examination in March 2014 revealed an uncut age rating from 16 years.

criticism

“Not a sequel, but a tension-free infusion of the“ Halloween ”series with an extraordinarily ridiculous story. Only the suggestive music can create a somewhat “eerie” atmosphere. "

Reassessment

Despite the initially negative reception of the film, mainly due to the disappointment of the fans over the absence of Michael Myers, the film gained many new fans through reassessment over the last three decades and is now regarded as a cult film in its own right .

Above all, John Carpenter's plan to bring out an independent film every year is praised in comparison to the increasingly poor sequels.
