Halloween VI - The Curse of Michael Myers is a horror film by Joe Chappelle from 1995. After Halloween V - The Revenge of Michael Myers at the box office was not very successful, attempts were again made to give the plot a new direction.

action

Michael Myers' niece Jamie, who has lived in the clutches of a sect for years, gives birth to Michael's child there. With the help of a midwife, who is killed by Michael as a punishment by impaling the back of her head in a protruding sharp metal part high on the wall, Jamie escapes her tormentors. She escapes with the baby in a stolen pickup and is followed by Michael. After a short stop, where she can hide the child unnoticed, she continues to flee to an old barn. Here Michael kills Jamie by impaling her on a corn thresher, setting it on fire, and gutting her.

Meanwhile, the retired Dr. Sam Loomis from his friend Dr. Terence Wynn, General Manager of Smith's Grove Sanatorium , visited where Michael was imprisoned as a boy. Wynn asks Loomis to return to Smith's Grove and help him with his research.

Back in Haddonfield, lives Tommy Doyle, who previously survived Michael Myers' assassination attempt. Since seeing Michael as a child, Tommy has been obsessed with finding out the truth about him and his motivations. He discovers Jamie's baby in a bus station and takes her into his care. Tommy takes the child to a hospital and meets Dr. Loomis. After Jamie's body is found, they are both convinced that Michael has returned to Haddonfield. Tommy reports to Dr. Loomis from the Strode family who now live in the Myers house. The family is distantly related to Michael and, in his opinion, is in danger. He makes an appointment with Dr. Loomis goes to evening to talk more about it and leaves the clinic with the baby. He brings the child to his home and names him Steven.

Meanwhile, Michael enters "his" house and kills Debra Strode with an ax and hides her in the basement. When her six-year-old grandson Danny comes home and sees no one, Tommy and the baby join him. After Danny's mother Kara arrives, she is initially outraged by the strange man in the house. Tommy quickly comes out as a concerned neighbor and tells Kara what this house is all about and that they have inherited a deadly inheritance with the building. He takes them over to him and reveals that he believes Michael was infected with Thorn , an ancient druid curse. Long ago, a child from every tribe that was to bear the curse of Thorn had to sacrifice his next of kin on the night of Samhain or Halloween in order to save the whole tribe. Tommy believes Steven will be Michael's last victim.

While Tommy named after Dr. As Loomis looks out, Tommy's housekeeper reveals to Kara that she was in the house as a nanny the night Michael killed his sister. Michael would have heard a voice that instructed him to kill his family and now she claims that Danny would also hear this voice. Michael now kills radio reporter Barry Simms, Kara's father, her brother Tim and Tim's friend Beth. Kara tries to call Beth from Tommy's apartment to warn her, but it's already too late.

After Tommy met Dr. Loomis has come home, they must realize that Dr. Terence Wynn is here waiting for her, obviously pursuing his own goals. Together with a few helpers, he overpowered them and briefly numbed them. He kidnapped Kara, Danny, Steven and Michael to Smith's Grove. There Dr. Loomis Wynn and he reveals that he specializes in genetic research. With Jamie's baby, he could create his own “Michael” and control “evil”. Meanwhile, Tommy is looking for Kara and the children. When he finds Kara and wants to free him, he has to flee from Michael. He can temporarily put him out of action and is now looking for Danny and Steven with Kara. They both discover her in an examination room and flee with them when Michael is busy butchering Wynn's team of surgeons. As they escape through the long hospital corridors, Michael stays on their heels. Tommy confronts him and injects him with a corrosive liquid in the hope of killing him and knocks him unconscious with a lead pipe. In the middle of this scuffle, they meet Dr. Loomis again, who helps them escape from the hospital. However, Loomis himself refuses to come with Tommy, Kara and the children because he has "still something to do".

background

After a 6 year hiatus, Moustapha Akkad released another film in the Halloween series. In advance, the film received some working titles such as Halloween 6 , Halloween 666: Curse of Michael Myers , Halloween 666: The Origin of Michael Myers , Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers and Halloween: The Origin of Michael Myers .

The sound of John Carpenter has been adjusted again and during the scene changes there are also fast running sequences. The film was well received in the USA and was in the top 10 theaters for several weeks; in total he brought in around 15.1 million US dollars . In Germany it was only allowed to be shown in the cinema from 10 p.m. due to the release from 6 p.m. The film ran in around 10 percent of German cinemas for a period of around two weeks with one screening a day. VHS and DVD sales were sluggish, so DVD production was discontinued. In the meantime, the film has been indexed, which has resulted in a ban on public advertising.

Despite his advanced age, Donald Pleasence could be signed up again, but Donald Pleasence died during the filming, which is why the project was discontinued. Since Miramax Films had just secured the rights to the Halloween series and had already invested a lot of money in the film, the project was continued. The entire script was rewritten and tailored to the scenes with Donald Pleasence that had already been filmed. The film was later dedicated to Pleasence. The difficulties described also justify the creation of the coveted "Halloween 666" Producer's Cut.

In the “Producer's Cut” there is an alternative ending (the original intended ending). In this Loomis returns one more time to see if Michael Myers is really dead. But when he removes the mask from the motionless body, he realizes that it is not Michael. Then he discovers the same symbol on his arm that Michael has on his arm. He screams and you can see the real Michael leaving the house. This cliffhanger ending can be interpreted in such a way that a continuation of the material should probably follow in a seventh part, in which it would have been shown what the sign is all about. However, since Donald Pleasence passed away, this continuation was not possible. So the original ending was omitted and it was replaced by a cut final sequence in which Loomis goes into the house with the intention of looking after Michael, but lets the view of the house and recorded the outcry from the original ending. So came the end in which Loomis is apparently murdered.

criticism

The lexicon of international films rated: "Confused, lengthy infusion of the well-known 'Halloween' material with a multitude of secondary characters and stories, which only reminds in a few moments of the qualities of the original by John Carpenter."

The critics at Filmtipps.at wrote: “'Halloween 6' is not a particularly good 'Halloween' film, but it's not really bad either. The plot - which we had to continue from Part 5 - is absolute nonsense, but at least it is staged rapidly and has good effects. All in all, you get such a solid slasher, which is sometimes quite exciting and atmospherically dense and can even be fun. "
