Halloween II is a horror film by Rick Rosenthal from 1981 . The plot connects directly to the end of the predecessor Halloween - The Night of Horror .

The film was also released in Germany under the titles Halloween 2 , Halloween II - The night of horror goes on ... and Halloween II - The night of blood . In the English-speaking world it is also under the titles Halloween II: The Horror Continues and Halloween II: The Nightmare Isn't Over! known.

Halloween II - The Horror Returns was originally supposed to be the last part of the planned Halloween film series in which Michael Myers played the role of the villain. Since the grossing results of the successor without Myers, Halloween 3 , fell short of the producers' expectations, it was decided to get it back for Halloween 4 .

action

The events of the first part are seamlessly linked to. It's the same night and Michael Myers disappeared without a trace after falling out of the window. Dr. Loomis and the sheriff try to find him again while he is murdering on the way to the hospital where the visibly shocked Laurie was admitted. After a similarly dressed man dies in an accident, most people think the spook is over. But Loomis' doubts come true: It was not Myers who died, but an innocent man. Michael Myers is meanwhile in the hospital and murders the staff, but Laurie manages to escape for the time being.

Dr. Loomis is ordered back while looking for Michael by order of the governor. Marion Chambers, a woman from the Department of Health, tells him that Laurie Strode is Michael Myers' younger sister and that the Strodes adopted it after the death of her real parents. It is immediately clear to Loomis that Michael is after his last relative, and he immediately goes to the hospital, where he finally finds her. Together they try to escape from the hospital. In the showdown, Loomis blows himself up and Myers - both then burn. Laurie Strode is supposed to be the last survivor of this night of horror and is taken away in an ambulance.

background

  • The film wasn't good enough for the test audience and Carpenter himself, so he shot some more brutal and bloody scenes himself, which were then added. In this version, the film then grossed 25.5 million US dollars in the United States .
  • The balcony Michael Myers falls from is the one at the front entrance of the Doyle house instead of on the side of the house as in the first part.
  • Except for this film, all others in the series end on Halloween night. But this also shows the morning after.
  • According to the original script, this film should take place in a high-rise building instead of in a hospital.
  • In 1982 the film was nominated for the Saturn Award for best horror film. However, the award was won by American Werewolf .
  • Since 2001 the film has been available again with an age rating of 16 years and over, which has been severely shortened. All later publications were also shortened.
  • The German dubbed version contains a content error when Dr. Loomis identifying a corpse claims that Michael Myers was 31 years old. In the prequel, which takes place the same night or a few hours before the events of the second part, Myers is actually only 21 years old, as can be seen from the dates shown at the beginning of the film.
  • In the course of the film it turns out that the young man who was killed, who wore a mask similar to Michael Myers, was Ben Tramer, who was already mentioned in the first part.
  • Halloween 2 is the only part of the series that was confiscated according to § 131 StGB. The slightly shortened video version from ITT was also confiscated.

criticism

“Continuation of the horror film 'Halloween'. The pseudo-psychological explanation of the personification of absolute evil goes hand in hand with the defamation of the mentally ill and is a pretext for a series of bloody and shocking scenes. "
