Halloween Kills is an upcoming American horror film directed by David Gordon Green and is due to hit theaters on October 15, 2021. It is a sequel to Halloween from 2018 and the twelfth part of the Halloween film series .

action

Even if little details are known about the plot of the film so far, it is clear that the events of Halloween in 2018 will be linked to and that this film, with its own plot, also ignores the events of the original film series. Nonetheless, the makers insisted on engaging a large proportion of the original cast of the first two parts from 1978 and 1981. Locations such as the Haddonfield Memorial Hospital are also modeled on the original.

production

It was first reported in October 2018 that a sequel to Halloween was in development, after David Gordon Green and Danny McBride had previously considered staging a trilogy and shooting two films back-to-back . In July 2019, two sequels to Halloween (2018) were finally announced, which should appear in October 2020 and 2021 under the titles Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends . The director is Green, who is responsible for the script together with McBride and Scott Teems . The film is produced by Jason Blum , Malek Akkad and Bill Block for the production companies Trancas International Films , Miramax and Blumhouse Productions . According to Green, the plan from the start was to make two Halloween films at the same time. However, it was later decided to first wait for the success of Halloween in 2018. When it ran successfully at the box office, the idea was taken up again for a second part and ultimately even split into two films. Both films are intended to bring the narrative strand around Laurie Strode and Michael Myers to an end. According to producer Jason Blum, the film does not look like the first film in a two-part series, but is a stand-alone, rounded work, even if the viewer would ultimately know where the sequel Halloween Ends will go.

The first cast member announced was Jamie Lee Curtis , who will play Laurie Strode for the sixth time. Also Nick Castle announced his return, making it for the third time as Michael Myers will be on display. He shared this role again with James Jude Courtney , who is under the iconic mask in most of the scenes. Castle, on the other hand, made sound recordings in the studio, including breath noises. In addition, Judy Greer and Andi Matichak should re-record their roles from the previous film. According to Curtis, a central aspect of Green's planned Halloween films is trauma . Already in Halloween (2018), the director visualized the adverse effects on Laurie Strode's life after the events of Halloween - The Night of Horror . In Halloween kills you will now return more characters from the original film and the influence of Michael Myers broach on their lives. Among other things, Tommy Doyle is said to have an appearance in the film. Since Paul Rudd , who took on this role in Halloween VI - The Curse of Michael Myers , had to cancel due to scheduling clashes with the filming of Ghostbusters: Legacy , she was replaced with Anthony Michael Hall . It was also announced that Kyle Richards , Nancy Stephens and Charles Cyphers will be re-recording their roles from the original film. According to Curtis , Lindsay Wallace , embodied by Richards, should move more into the focus of the film. The figure is sent "literally through hell" both emotionally and physically. While Richards filmed scenes for almost four weeks and even broke his nose, Curtis was only on the film set for a few days. Robert Longstreet is supposed to play Lonnie Elam , who was played by Brent Le Page in Halloween (1978) and harassed the young Tommy Doyle . Lonnie is also the father of Cameron Elam , who is Allyson Strode's boyfriend in Halloween (2018) . Longstreet said about the film that it would be the "most repulsive and harrowing" of the entire film series. In addition, he revealed about his role that Lonnie struggled with his own past and is now "addicted to alcohol and drugs". As in the previous film, Jibrail Nantambu is supposed to play the role of Julian . For the fifth time, John Carpenter is responsible for the soundtrack for a Halloween film .

Filming began on September 12, 2019 under the working title Mob Rules in the port city of Wilmington , North Carolina . Michael Simmonds , who already took on this role in the previous film, acts as cameraman . The first recordings were made in the late afternoon and evening with a news reporter. In the week from September 23 to 27, during the filming, which took place daily from 3 p.m. to 8 a.m., in Wallace Park and on various streets, dialog and action scenes were filmed, in which shots were simulated. As became known from set photos, the fictional Haddonfield Memorial Hospital , the location of Halloween II - The Horror Returns , will also be a backdrop in the film. On November 3, 2019, filming was completed after just 36 days of shooting.

The first test screenings took place on January 30, 2020 in Los Angeles . The film was originally scheduled to hit German cinemas on October 15, 2020 and US cinemas the following day. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic , however, the US launch date in July 2020 was postponed to October 15, 2021. At the same time a first teaser was published.
