Halloween IV - Michael Myers Returns is a 1988 horror film by Dwight H. Little . After the failed experiment of telling every Halloween film with a new story, the original story was reverted to ten years after Halloween - The night of horror gone.
action
Michael Myers, a suspected invalid in a Richmond mental health clinic , is due to be relocated to Smith Grove Sanatorium at state expense . He lies motionless in the ambulance while the two paramedics talk about his last remaining relative (his niece Jamie) at his former home in Haddonfield. Michael wakes up, brutally kills the two paramedics and escapes in the direction of Haddonfield.
When his doctor Dr. When Loomis learns of the ambulance accident and the death of the paramedics, he knows what happened and also goes to Haddonfield. Nobody wants to believe him, even the local police in Haddonfield take a long time to understand that real evil has returned. Michael, meanwhile, leaves a trail of dead bodies on the way from Richmond to Haddonfield. Once there, it causes fear and terror again. Jamie and her stepsister Rachel are cornered by Michael but, with the help of Dr. Free Loomis and escape.
Together with four men and a truck, they want to flee the city, but Myers clings under the car unnoticed. When they meet the state police on their way to town, they think they are safe. But when the police are out of sight, Michael appears and kills all the men; two are thrown from the car, one is stabbed and one breaks Michael’s neck. Rachel gets behind the wheel and drives on. Michael attacks her. But she brakes the car hard and Myers falls over the front of the car. For the time being he lies there motionless, but gets up again immediately. Rachel puts the car in gear and gives it full throttle. She drives up to him and smashes him with full force into the nearby forest. Meanwhile, the police in Haddonfield noticed that Myers was long gone. You turn around and arrive at the place of horror just in time. Michael is injured and motionless on the ground. Jamie takes pity and slowly approaches her uncle. She takes his hand despite warnings from Rachel and Sheriff Meeker. In doing so, he comes to life again, and he wants to kill Jamie with his knife. But before he can stab he is gunned down by the sheriff and the rest of the state police. He falls backwards into an old mine shaft, and Meeker gives the order to blow up the shaft just to be on the safe side.
Everyone goes home to Jamie's family in horror, and Loomis is certain that evil is finally vanquished once and for all. But in the end, Jamie puts on a mask and gets a pair of scissors. She walks up to her stepmother, who is taking a bath for her, and thrusts several times. Loomis hears a loud scream and runs up the stairs in despair. There is now Jamie with the bloody scissors and the same mask as Michael as a child when he murdered his sister. Dr. Loomis desperately tries to shoot the girl. At the last second, the police chief saves the girl.
criticism
“Another continuation of the horror film 'Halloween', which does not match its original, but is good for a few surprising moments. The suggestive camera work, which makes the atmosphere of the threat clear, is excellent. "
Trivia
- To avoid the scriptwriters' strike, the script was written in just 11 days.
- The film grossed 17.8 million with a budget of 5 million dollars in the US dollar one.
- John Carpenter wanted nothing more to do with this sequel and publicly distanced himself in interviews to be associated with the film. He could not object to the use of his name because he does not own the rights for his music, but he must be named as the composer of the Halloween theme.
- The English, Spanish and Turkish versions of Halloween 4 have been indexed in Germany since 1994 and 1995, respectively. The German FSK-18-DVD and the FSK-18-VHS were therefore automatically indexed because they had the same content. Indexing was lifted in August 2013. The right holder's request for the BPjM to delete the list prematurely was granted after a new review. A reassessment by the FSK revealed the age rating from 16 years onwards. On October 31, 2013, the uncut version was shown for the first time on German television as part of a Halloween special broadcast on the pay-TV channel Sky Action HD .
