Let's be Cops - Die Party Bullen (Original title: Let's Be Cops ) is an American comedy film from 2014 . Directed by Luke Greenfield , who also wrote the script with Nicholas Thomas .

action

Two longtime friends Justin, a not exactly successful video game designer, and Ryan, a former college quarterback , remember their once-for-all pact: If they don't "make it" in Los Angeles before they are 30, they both move back to their homeland in Columbus , Ohio . As the two of them leave a bar, their car is rammed by a vehicle full of Albanians. Through intimidation and muscle play, these two get them to stop doing anything.

When Justin tries to present his boss with an idea for a game about police officers, he refuses. Ryan later convinces him to wear the police uniforms from the presentation at the college class reunion costume ball. At the party, both are confronted with their failed careers. On their way home, thanks to their authentic uniforms, they experience respect and enjoy the new recognition.

Ryan studies police codes and defense techniques using internet videos. He also buys a used police car and modifies it until it looks like an official police car. Reluctantly, Justin joins this charade as it benefits his relationship with the waitress Josie. Ryan finds the car of the gangsters who recently demolished his car when they are trying to blackmail the owner of "Georgie's". Thanks to their uniforms, the two former victims gain respect and drive away the criminals to the applause of local residents.

As the two drive around in their fake police vehicle, they are stopped by Officer Segars because their patrol car has no license plates. But shortly before the two threaten to be exposed, Segars discovers the sergeant's badge of rank sewn onto Ryan's uniform and apologizes for the misunderstanding. When an alarm sounds from the shop next door, Ryan and Justin are drawn into a real mission. After this encounter with real guns and burglars, Justin wants to get out. He researches that copying police identification is a criminal offense with a prison code. But then he receives a call from Josie, who is threatened by a gangster at "Georgie's". The two rush to help and meet Mossi Kasic, the leader of the Albanian gangsters.

Officer Segars equips Ryan with surveillance tools to gather evidence against Mossi and an unknown partner. Together with Justin, they observe the Albanians to find out what's in the boxes that Mossi always gets by ship. Justin disguises himself as one of the criminals, and when they get into the house of the criminals, they discover a warehouse with weapons that were confiscated by the police and destined for destruction. They also find a secret tunnel between Mossis Club and “Georgie's”, which also explains why Mossi wanted to become a partner in “Georgie's”. While Justin would like to anonymously submit the found evidence, Ryan insists on delivering everything in person.

Officer Segars hands the incriminating material over to the responsible supervisor, Detective Brolin. This is Mossi's mysterious partner, whom the two had observed during their observation. Brolin reveals Ryan's disguise as a fake cop. While Justin tries again to sell his game idea, Ryan is chased and kidnapped by Massi's men. Mossi sends Justin a clear message. Justin turns to Officer Segars for help after telling the whole truth. He also confesses everything to Josie, who then leaves him.

Justin goes into the tunnels alone while Ryan tries to play Mossi and Brolin off against each other. He succeeds and Mossi shoots the detective. Justin tries to help his friend, but is overwhelmed. At the same time, Officer Segars arrives at the club and finds the entrance to the tunnels. He finds them and saves their lives while Mossi and his gang flee into the tunnel. Officer Segars admonishes them both, sends them away and goes into the tunnels alone. However, Ryan and Justin do not want to leave him alone and equip themselves with the SWAT equipment from Mossi's boxes. You can rescue Officer Segars from the gangsters' crossfire, but he is badly damaged. Both flee further into the tunnels and find the hiding place for Mossi's money and drugs. Mossi shoots wildly, but before he can shoot them both, Officer Segars hits him in the chest.

Given the confidence and motivation they both showed, Justin becomes a successful game designer while Ryan becomes a cop for the LAPD at Police School . Justin apologizes to Josie and she forgives him. Ryan thinks back to the time together as fake cops and takes Justin on patrol in a fake uniform.

Birgit Roschy from epd Film judged that "in addition to the gross motor direction [...] its almost complete lack of imagination" is the "most prominent feature of the film". Its contradictions often nip the joke in the bud.
