Leighton Marissa Meester (born April 9, 1986 in Fort Worth , Texas ) is an American actress , singer and songwriter .

From 2005 to 2006 she acted as Savannah in the television series Surface, but she has also appeared in guest roles in the TV series 24 , Veronica Mars and Entourage . She gained particular fame through her role as "Blair Waldorf" in the television series Gossip Girl , which was produced from 2007 to 2012.

Life

Leighton Meester was born in Fort Worth, Texas to Constance (née Haas) and Douglas Meester. She has Dutch, German, British and Irish ancestors.

At the time of her birth, her mother was serving a sentence for her involvement in a drug ring that smuggled marijuana from Jamaica into the United States. She was able to give birth to Leighton in a hospital and nursed her in a rehabilitation center for three months before returning to prison to complete her sentence. After that, Meester's grandmother took care of her.

Meester grew up in Marco Island, Florida, where she was involved in productions at a local theater. When she was eleven, Meester and her mother moved to New York. Meester attended the Professional Children's School and began working as a model for the Wilhelmina agency . She was booked for a Ralph Lauren campaign photographed by Bruce Weber and worked with photographer Sofia Coppola as well as on advertising for Tamagotchi toys and Clearasil, among others. Meester made her television debut as the girlfriend of a murder victim on an episode of Law & Order . At 14, she moved to Los Angeles, California in search of steady work and attended Hollywood High School and Beverly Hills High School. Then she moved to a small private school and graduated a year early.

In July 2011, she and her mother filed a lawsuit against each other over financial support for Meester's younger brother, who has several health problems. Meester testified that the money she gave her mother was embezzled by her, while her mother complained of breach of contract and physical abuse.

Until April 2010, Meester was in a relationship with actor Sebastian Stan , whom she met on the set of Gossip Girl . She has been married to OC, California star Adam Brody since February 14, 2014 . Their daughter was born on August 4, 2015.

After making her television debut in 1999 when she played Alyssa Turner in Law & Order , Meester appeared as a guest on two other series before snapping a major role in the movie Hangman's Curse , based on the best-selling book by Frank E. Peretti . She appeared in the series Tarzan , which ran only eight episodes. Meester then got guest roles in other series, such as Crossing Jordan - Pathologist with Profile , A Heavenly Family , Veronica Mars , 24 and Entourage .

In 2005, Meester got a leading role in the series Surface as Savannah Bennet. In 2006, Meester appeared in two other films, Flourish and Inside . She made guest appearances in Numbers and in two episodes of Dr. House , where she plays Ali, a young girl who keeps an eye on Dr. House threw. She also had guest roles in CSI: Miami and Shark . She also played the leading female role in the horror film Drive-Thru .

In 2007, Meester was cast as Blair Waldorf on the teen drama series Gossip Girl . The series is based on a series of books by the author Cecily von Ziegesar and is about the life of young adults in the privileged upper class of New York's East Side. Her appearance is the most critically acclaimed of the show. Blair is known as the "breakout character" of the series and has also received a lot of recognition for her wardrobe.

Meester starred in the television movie The Haunting of Sorority Row and played a role in the comedy drama Remember the Daze . She also appeared in the 2008 horror thriller Killer Movie - Fear the Truth . In 2010, Meester had minor roles in the comedies Date Night - Gangsters for a Night and Crazy About You . In 2010 she starred in Screen Gems ' country crama Country Strong and in 2011 in the thriller The Roommate . In 2011, she starred alongside Selena Gomez and Katie Cassidy in the young female comedy Suddenly Star and in My Best Friend's Daughter with Hugh Laurie .

In April 2009, Meester signed a recording deal with Universal Republic. Meester's first official single Somebody to Love , a duet with R'n'B singer Robin Thicke , was released on October 13, 2009. Her second single, Your Love's a Drug , was released on March 30, 2010.

Meester released the song Good Girls Go Bad , which reached the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 Charts, together with the band Cobra Starship , and the song She Said with Stephan Jerzak . She recorded a cover version of the song Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) . She contributed the cover songs Words I Couldn't Say and A Little Bit Stronger for the film Country Strong . Meester sang the title Summer Girl for an advertisement. Together with Garrett Hedlund she sang the duet Give in To Me .
