Surface - Unheimlicheiefe (Original title: Surface ) is an American television series , developed by Josh Pate and Jonas Pate , which was produced for the US television chain NBC and broadcast from September 2005 to February 2006.
action
Giant creatures (gigantic lizards) appear out of nowhere in the world's oceans. The young marine biologist Dr. Laura Daughtery has an encounter with these creatures while diving in a submarine. She decides to get to the bottom of it and over time realizes that the creatures will do significant damage to the world's biological balance. At the same time, Rich Connelly and his brother were diving near an oil rig in the ocean to catch fish in the Gulf of Mexico. They have an encounter with one of the creatures. Shortly afterwards, Rich's brother is torn into the depths by this being, while he can no longer breathe himself and drifts to the surface. When a dead creature was washed up on a beach, the government evacuated it on the grounds of algae plague; a blood sample is also taken from each of them. Rich and Laura get to know each other at this point, suspecting that the government must have something to do with the creatures, and they band together.
One dark night, Miles Barnett, Miles' friend Phil, and another friend take a boat out to sea. Miles falls into the water and is startled by a small creature that he cannot properly recognize. Shortly afterwards, they are arrested by the Coast Guard. The next evening Miles and Phil go back to the spot and find a dozen eggs, one of which Miles takes home and throws it into the aquarium. A few days later, a “little lizard” hatches from it, which Miles Nimrod, or Nim for short, or Nimmy calls it. He develops a deep connection to Nim and tries to keep his existence a secret, but does not succeed for very long.
In the final episodes of the season Miles falls in love with Caitlin, whom he met at the aquarium, where he had to serve community hours for some "crimes". Only in the last episode "Tsunami" do Miles and Caitlin meet Laura and Rich. The stories are told alternately by these people. Other characters are Jessy, Laura's son, who often leaves him with her husband Sean and his new wife. Dr. Aleksander Cirko, who works for the government but is killed by Davis Lee, a government agent, when he finds out the origin of the creatures. Miles' parents Sylvia and Ron Barnett, who are temporarily considering sending Miles to military school and receiving Dr. Bloom, manager of the aquarium in which Miles works and also Caitlin's father.

useful information
Due to the rather mediocre audience ratings (in relation to the high production costs of the first season) NBC has not released any further seasons. Fans of the series tried to petition NBC to continue the series, as many questions remained unanswered due to the incomplete plot.
In November 2008 it was announced that the German broadcaster ProSieben had offered the US studio NBC in 2006 to continue producing the series after its preliminary end, as the ratings in Germany were excellent, unlike in the USA. The aim was to create two 90-minute feature films that ProSieben would have co-financed. However, this did not happen because the complex sets of the series had already been dismantled at this point.
DVD
On August 15, 2006, the entire first season appeared in the USA under the name Surface - The Complete Series on DVD. On December 14, 2006, it was published in Germany as Surface - The Complete Series . In addition to all 15 episodes, the box with 4 DVDs also contains 25 minutes of bonus material.
