description

The glossy-winged parrot is about 28 to 30 cm tall. The back, neck and wings are bronze-green, the region around the lower beak white. The bare eye region is reddish, the rump and tail-coverts are bright red. It has a pink and white throat band with bluish rimmed feathers. The rest of the plumage is dark blue, the bill yellowish horn-colored, the feet gray-brown. The iris is brown.

From the outside, you cannot tell what gender the bird is. Fledglings are less colored and have green or green-lined wing covers with a shimmer of blue.

The glossy-winged parrot lives in the tropical and subtropical mountain forests in the north-west of South America , in north-west Venezuela , in north-west Peru to west Ecuador and south-west Colombia .
