Closer to the Truth is the 26th studio album by the American singer Cher and her first solo album since Living Proof in 2001. The first release was on September 24, 2013, in German-speaking countries it was released on October 4, 2013. It contains elements of pop , soft rock and EDM with influences from the 1980s and 1990s. To create the desired sound, Cher worked with various songwriters and producers, including Mark Taylor, P! Nk , Kuk Harrell, Paul Oakenfold and Timbaland .
The first single, Woman's World , was released for download on June 18, 2013. I Hope You Find It followed on October 4th, Take It Like a Man on November 8th, 2013.
Closer to the Truth entered the US at number 3 on the Billboard 200 charts and reached Cher's highest ranking to date with a solo album, after Believe in 1998 and The Very Best of Cher in 2003 each landed at number 4. As part of Sonny and Cher , however, she was able to reach number 2 with Look at Us as early as 1965 - Cher sets the record for the longest span between the top 5 albums by a female artist in the USA.

Closer to the Truth contains the two songs Lie to Me and I Walk Alone, written by P! Nk, and Take It Like a Man penned by Jake Shears . Lovers Forever was originally written by Cher and singer-songwriter Shirley Eikhard for the soundtrack of the film Interview with a Vampire and was recorded by Eikhard for their album Pop in 2006. Cher has also covered three songs : Sirens by Nell Bryden, Dressed to Kill by Preston and I Hope You Find It by Miley Cyrus .
While the majority of the album consists of electronic dance music , Sirens also includes a soft rock ballad; I Hope You Find It , Lie to Me, and Will You Wait For Me have elements of country music .
Singles
Woman's World
The lead single Woman's World was released on June 18, 2013 in the USA and Canada, in Europe at the beginning of September 2013. In the US “Hot Dance / Club Play” charts, the song reached number 1 with over 20 remix versions.
The music video was directed by Norwegian director Ray Kay and released on August 24, 2013.
I hope you find it
I Hope You Find It was released as a 2track with Woman's World on October 4th and featured on various television shows by Cher on her promotional tour of North America and Europe. The country ballad, previously recorded by Miley Cyrus for the soundtrack of the film With You by My Side , made it into several European charts and became a radio hit in the UK. The song reached number 84 on the South Korean Gaon Charts .
For further promotion, a poetry video was published on video portals. It shows letters and cards Cher leaves her lover and has been favorably received by critics.
Take It Like a Man
With Take It Like a Man , another dance single was released on November 8, 2013. The download single contains four remix and one instrumental version:

The song includes backing vocals from Scissor Sisters front man Jake Shears . A music video for the 7th Heaven Remix was released on November 20, 2013 and attracted media attention due to the erotic depiction of homosexual male underwear models and porn stars. On January 24th 2014, Take it Like a Man - The Remixes was released with 8 additional remix versions. Take It Like a Man peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot Dance / Club Play charts.
I walk alone
At the beginning of 2014 promo CDs of "I Walk Alone" were sent to several radios, DJs and clubs and finally on April 25th, 2014 a digital remix EP with nine remixes by Tracy Young was released.

The song was written by the American singer P! NK , who also recorded background vocals for the song. The single also reached number 1 on the EUR HiNRG Top 50 Club Charts and number 2 on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs.

Closer to the Truth received mostly positive reviews. The Germany radio described the album as similar to the "Sound Generation Madonna, but with socio-political aspirations. Namely - according to Cher - as a hedonistic manifesto in one of the darkest moments in American history: the republican boycott against Obama, which is making the USA downright incapacitated. "The specialist magazine MusikWoche praised her personality recognizable in the songs, but above all" her still impressive , powerful voice that towers over all tracks ”. A tour with the title Dressed to Kill Tour was announced on August 23, 2013 with initially 49 dates in the USA and Canada, it is named after the song of the same name on the album.
