background

After seven years without releasing any new material, Cher recorded the two songs Welcome to Burlesque and You Haven't Seen the Last of Me for the soundtrack of the musical drama Burlesque in 2010 , for which she received critical acclaim, including one Golden Globe Award received. In early 2011 she began work on a new solo album - the first since Living Proof in 2001.

publication

In October 2012, parts of the planned lead single Woman's World , which had previously been played by a DJ in a club in Michigan , were released before the album was completed. Cher was dissatisfied with this on her Twitter page. As soon as a demo version in full length came to the public, Cher and the production company Warner Bros. decided to release the song early. Cher explained, "We thought we had enough time, but Woman's World started popping up unexpectedly all over the world!"

As a result, the song was released as a free online stream on November 22, 2012 on Cher's official website. In March 2013, after several postponements, Cher announced the single release for June 2013, with the album following in September. A music video directed by Ray Kay was produced in January 2013. On June 10, 2013, it was announced that Cher would perform the song in the finale of the US television show The Voice on June 18 and the single would be released in the US and Canada on the same day. There, according to the broadcaster, she appeared live on television for the first time in 10 years.

The music video premiered on August 20, 2013 and was published for the German market on the video portal MyVideo.de , where it placed second on the video charts the next day.

Reviews

“Synthesizer fanfares, stomping beats, disco in its vulgar version, playable in the Robinson Club, in dancing bunkers from Berlin to Bielefeld or in the local party room. 'Women of this world, get together!' It says in the chorus. A female international, that sounds good, especially in these times. But Cher has been doing it for so long, you have almost forgotten that after Barbra Streisand she is the only woman who won an Oscar and a number one hit in the same year. "
