Canadian Hot 100
The Canadian Hot 100 is an unofficial hit parade for Canada , created by the US American Billboard magazine .
background
Like the US Hot 100 for the United States, the 100 most successful songs each week in Canada are determined from an analysis of sales and airplay numbers. For this purpose, the official download sales figures from Nielsen Soundscan and the radio charts from Nielsen BDS are combined. The single sales, which - unlike in Europe - play almost no role in North America, are not taken into account.
The Canadian Hot 100 is the first ever charts that Billboard produced itself for a country outside the United States . On June 7, 2007 there was the first issue with the first number one hit Umbrella by Rihanna and Jay-Z . The dating of the charts is analogous to the US Hot 100, so the charts published on Thursdays have the date of the Saturday of the following week (i.e. the day of publication plus nine days).
The Canadian Hot 100 is not created on behalf of Music Canada (formerly the Canadian Recording Industry Association , CRIA ), the Canadian representative of IFPI . However, they are often quoted because the CRIA continued the singles sales charts for a long time, which after the collapse of the singles market in the 1990s became less and less meaningful. Airplay and later download charts were released separately, but it wasn't until May 2011 that the top 20 digital tracks became the official Canadian single charts.
