John Patrick Shanley (2011)

John Patrick Shanley (born October 3, 1950 in Bronx , New York City , New York ) is an American theater and screenwriter of Irish descent, he is also active as a theater and film director.

Career

John Patrick Shanley was taught in a private Catholic school by members of the Christian Brothers and Sisters of Charity . In 1977 he graduated from New York University .

For the screenplay for the film Moonstruck (1987) Shanley received an Oscar and the Writers Guild of America Award . For the play Doubt he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Theater and a Tony for Best Play in 2005. In 2008 he filmed the material under the title Faith Question for the big screen with Meryl Streep , Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams in the leading roles. The film script earned him, among other things, nominations for the Golden Globe Award and Oscar.

In 2007 he was accepted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
