Creation and publication

The song was composed by Savan Kotecha, Onika Maraj (Nicki Minaj), Max Martin and Anton Zaslavski (Zedd). The single was first released on October 13, 2012. content

The lyrics to Beauty and a Beat are written entirely in English. The music and the text were written jointly by Savan Kotecha, Max Martin, Nicki Minaj and Zedd. Musically it is an electronic dance and synthpop song that also contains elements of R&B . During Nicki Minaj's rap interlude, the piece also references Bieber's ex-girlfriend, Selena Gomez : “Justin Bieber / You know I'm gonna hit 'em with the ether / Buns out, wiener / But I gotta keep an eye out for Selener . ”Gomez himself did not comment.

"Cause all I need, is a beauty and a beat,
who can make my life complete.
It's all bout you, when the music makes you move,
baby do it like you do. "

- Refrain, original

“Because all I need is a beautiful girl and a beat that
can fill my life.
It's all about you when you move to the music,
baby do it your way. "

- Refrain, translation

Music video

The music video begins with the opening credits of the text: "The following footage was illegaly uploaded by an anonymous blogger." Then you see a few scenes from Bieber's private life, including how he played Just Dance 4 , which was not yet published . The video then shows a "pool party" in which the song begins and the scene is filmed by Bieber himself. In the background you can see various people dancing, including in the water. In various dance scenes, the camera is removed from Bieber, which he then takes back. At the end you can see a few scenes of this "pool party", but not all of them are accompanied by music.

The video was mainly filmed in a water park . The music video was published on October 12, 2012 by Vevo on YouTube and broke a YouTube record after just 24 hours and 10.6 million clicks. Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj are the only artists to break the record twice.
