Their ancestors come from Africa and India; their family name is a short form of the Sanskrit Hindu ruler Maharaj , which means "great ruler".

From the age of five, she lived in the New York borough of Queens with her parents, who had emigrated to the United States. The song reached number 22 on Billboard's US Hot R & B / Hip-Hop Songs . Private life

In an interview with The Vibe , she said, “I just greet all people, with all their different lifestyles, and I don't tell them they are bad people. And I tell girls that they are beautiful and that they are sexy and they need to be told that, and if they don't have someone to tell them and really mean it, I will. But people always want to define me, and I don't want to be defined. ”In an interview with Out , she reiterated how much she hates being pigeonholed:“ The point is, nobody is just black or white . There are so many shades in between, and if you want to say something, you have to be comfortable speaking it. "

During an interview for the May 2010 issue of Details magazine , Minaj was asked if she felt that hip-hop was becoming more gay-friendly. She replied, “I think the whole world is getting more gay friendly, so hip-hop will too. Still, it's hard to imagine a homosexual male rapper being accepted in this scene, as many believe that a gay man has no street credibility and cannot be taken seriously. But I'm still sure that at some point we'll see a rapper like that too. "

Minaj was in a relationship with rappers Safaree Samuels , Meek Mill and Nas .

On October 21, 2019, Minaj announced on the Internet platform Instagram that she had married her boyfriend Kenneth Petty , with whom she has been together since 2018.
