PartyNextDoor (2016)

Jahron Anthony Brathwaite (* 3. July 1993 in Mississauga , Ontario ), known as Party Next Door , is a Canadian R & B - singer and producer .

Career

Brathwaite was born in Mississauga and lives in neighboring Toronto . Brathwaite was already musically active in childhood. His mother, who is originally from Jamaica , was a member of a church choir in which Brathwaite sang regularly. Through his father, he was able to maintain good contacts with other R&B artists. At the age of 17 he left Toronto to become a musician in Los Angeles .

There he met the rapper Drake , also from Toronto , who became his great patron. When Drake founded his label OVO Sound , he was the first to sign Brathwaite aka PartyNextDoor . In July 2013 he released his debut EP there with the stage name as a title and even made it into the R&B / hip-hop charts in the United States. The song Recognize from the EP, in which Drake was a guest, also became an R&B hit and sold over a million times ( platinum status ) in the USA .

The following year the first album, entitled PartyNextDoor Two, followed . It immediately rose to number 1 on the US R&B charts, earning it its first place on the official US charts at number 15 . The album was also placed in Canada and Great Britain. The less successful EP PNDColours followed at the end of the year . In 2015, Brathwaite was involved in Drake 's number one album If You're Reading This It's Too Late , not just as a producer and songwriter, but also as a guest vocalist on two songs. With Preach they made the official charts in the USA and Great Britain together.

Drake retaliated in 2016 with the single Come and See Me , which was PartyNextDoor's first own single hit in the US charts and received a gold award. It was the pre- single for the album PartyNextDoor 3 , also known as PX3 because of the album cover imprint , which was released in early August. With top 5 placements in Canada and the USA, it not only surpassed its predecessor, it was also successful beyond the English-speaking world and reached 36th place in Switzerland .

Come and See Me was nominated for Best R&B Song of the Year at the 2017 Grammy Awards . Brathwaite received his second nomination that year as co-producer of the Drake album in the Album of the Year category. In addition to working with Drake, he also works for other musicians, including one of the authors of Rihanna's number one hit Work .
