ye is the eighth studio album by the American rapper Kanye West . The album was released on June 1, 2018 via GOOD Music ( Def Jam ).

Emergence

background

West's seventh studio album, The Life of Pablo , was released in February 2016. Ten days after its release, he announced an album for the summer of 2016. The album was supposed to be called Turbo Grafx 16 and was named after the game console of the same name . The album didn't come out in the summer, however, and West began his Saint Pablo tour in August. The tour was canceled after 22 concerts by West due to health problems. In April 2018, West announced five albums he has produced, due to be released in the summer of 2018. Including Pusha Ts Daytona , ye , Kids See Ghosts, a collaboration album with Kid Cudi and albums by Teyana Taylor and Nas .

The cover was shot by West with his iPhone the day before it was released . It shows the Teton Range in Grand Teton National Park near Jackson Hole . On the cover is in green letters "I hate being Bi-Polar / It's awesome" ( "I hate Bi-Polar to be / It's awesome" ).

Naming

West said of the name of the album:

“I believe Ye is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible it means 'you'. So I'm you, I'm us, it's us. It went from Kanye, which means 'the only one', to just Ye - just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything. The album is more of a reflection of who we are. "
