Trade Martin (born September 1, 1942 ) is an American singer, guitarist, songwriter and arranger in the field of pop music .
Musical career
Martin began his musical career together with his partner Johnny Power, with whom he produced as Johnny & the Jokers records for Harvard Records in the late 1950s. In 1960 they both founded the record label Rome Records, whose best-known interpreter was the doo-wop group The Earls. In most of the productions Martin worked as a studio musician. The label only lasted until 1962.
Martin's career as a solo singer and under his birth name began in 1959 with two singles with the record company Gee Records and its subsidiary Roulette Records . Gee released the rare guitar solo recording La Mer . After a break of two years, he received a recording contract with the New York label Coed Records in 1960 , which released six singles with him by 1964. The first Coed record was also Martin's most successful production. The A-side tracks That Stranger Used to Be My Girl reached in the Hot 100 music magazine Billboard 28th place in November 1962nd After Coed had ceased operations in 1964, Martin released more singles with the record companies Stallion, RCA Victor , Toot and Buddah. Both of Martins' music albums were released by Buddah in 1971/72 .
As a songwriter, Martin was successful with his title Take Me For A Little While , which made the hit lists with two performers. Patti LaBelle finished 89th in 1966, while Vanilla Fudge finished 38th in 1968. The track was covered by Cher and Jackie Ross , among others . His song Peace To The World was included by BB King in the music album Live at San Quentin , which received the 1991 Grammy for Best Traditional Blues Album . He also composed the music for numerous commercials. His engagements as a composer (e.g. in the films West New York , Made for Each Other ) and as a production manager (also in West New York ) prove that he was also well connected in the film industry . He also took on a film role in West New York . As an arranger, Martin has worked on recordings for Joey Dee & the Starliters , Lesley Gore and the Tokens , and as a studio guitarist, he has worked with stars such as Burt Bacharach , Joan Baez , Bobby Darin and Carole King . Martin had worked as a producer for the bands BT Express and The Vagrants.
